Jean Quan: A Mayor For The Youth
By Joel Williams
Jean Quan is an Oakland City Council woman who is in the running for Oakland City Mayor. If elected, she will become the first Asian American Woman and the first Woman to become Mayor in a major city. But what Quan's resume doesn't show the people is that she is Oakland's Education Mayor. Not only are her policies mainly catered to education, she believes in lighting a path for the youth. A strong-willed stance to take that requires patience and dedication.
Quan has her own personal Youth Street Team that handles a plethora of different tasks that many politicians would probably not even consider for the youth. This entices as well as educates our youth on the political process in elections.
The Youth Street Team meet up at Jean Quan's campaign office to create, design, and publish different media related topics regarding Jean Quan's mayoral campaign. Event organizing and neighborhood walking-spreading the word and work of Jean Quan- are just a few of the tasks that the Street Team covers.
The best way to get to know a mayor or the political process is to just get involved! Quan will host a number of events accessible to the general public. She encourages inquisitive minds and, most especially, the younger generation to get their political feet wet in her campaign for mayor.
Quan's upcoming event will be held at the Youth Employment Partnership on 2300 International Blvd. So, put all the political stigmas on the back burner and come out to support a woman making HERstory.
